The first official New York State Energy Plan was released in 2009, outlining how the state could meet future energy needs, reduce demand, preserve the environment, and stimulate economic growth. In 2015 Governor Cuomo launched the Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) initiative, and the 2015 State Energy Plan that served as a roadmap for this program. In 2019 the state adopted the groundbreaking Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), codifying its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly and achieve the 70% clean electricity goal by 2030. This draft plan focuses on meeting future demand from electrification, ensuring energy affordability, and aligning with the CLCPA goals.
