Message from the President (5/31/17)

Chapter members and friends,

By the numbers alone, the National Planning Conference (NPC) was an extraordinary event, with more than 6,300 attendees from around the United States as well as 30 other countries. Much of our collective hard work from around the region was on display through nearly 70 mobile workshops and a wide range of conference sessions. Eleven local Great Places in America designees were highlighted as noteworthy attractions for visitors, and we had the privilege of co-hosting the local reception for 600 attendees at the iconic Stephen A. Schwarzman Building in partnership with the New Jersey and Connecticut Chapters. We are also appreciative of the hard work and dedication of the dozens of APA National leadership and staff, as well as the entire Local Host Committee, who made the NPC possible.

However, the numbers only tell part of the story. Whether you reconnected with longtime colleagues or forged new bonds, the camaraderie and enthusiasm surrounding the NPC were not quantifiable, but certainly were palpable. If you have not already done so, please help us preserve the memory of hosting the NPC by uploading your photos to our digital gallery.

As we begin the summer, I ask that you join me in maintaining the momentum from the NPC. Consider joining one or more Chapter Committees and/or reach out to your geographic Section Director to learn about ways that you can actively give back to the profession by contributing to the work of our Chapter. Above all else, I hope you found the NPC to be engaging and inspiring, and that you share my sense of renewed energy as we seek to move forward together as a Chapter.

Sincerely,
Max
