Job Description

Cozen O’Connor seeks an urban planner for its active New York City land use practice. Our land use team regularly handles applications for re-zonings, variances, agency determinations before the respective administrative agencies and officials and represents developers and land owners in  development rights and other transactions. The ideal candidate will have several years of private practice or government experience interpreting and applying the NYC Zoning Resolution and other applicable laws and regulations. The planner will be responsible for conducting research in specific or general project areas, assisting in the review and preparation of various development documents including ULURP and BSA applications, and identifying problems, issues, and/or opportunities in particular projects. Candidates must demonstrate strong academic performance and knowledge of effective writing techniques. Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.

Cozen O’Connor is an AmLaw 100 law firm that has earned its place among the nation’s top-rated real estate firms over the last two decades, having strategically developed a full-service real estate practice. Having handled hundreds of development projects to date, our zoning, land use and development team can recognize, anticipate, and resolve issues early, working closely with architectural, engineering, and budget experts to create realistic and approvable development plans. Although the goal is to communicate effectively with government officials, funders, community groups, and residents through open and respectful consultation, in the rare instances when negotiation is not possible, we are prepared to litigate our clients’ legitimate property rights.

We are not accepting candidate submissions from search firms.
