Organization: Westchester County Department of Planning
Posted: April 11, 2019 | Closing: May 2, 2019
The Westchester County Department of Planning is seeking a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student to provide assistance with the development of a new Open Space Plan for Westchester County. The Open Space Plan is part of a larger update of the County’s long range, web-based land use policies document to be known as Westchester 2033.
Work will include, but not be limited to, research of current County and local municipal open space and land use plans, mapping of various open space parcels and open space uses and characteristics, contact and coordination with the county’s 45 municipalities, and the writing, review and editing of summaries, reports, tables and maps. It is envisioned that the intern will assist in the development of two chapters or sections within the Open Space Plan document. Therefore, candidates are encouraged to have experience in Word, Excel and ArcGIS and have strong writing skills.
This position is available for all or a portion of the period between June 1 and December 31, 2019. There is flexibility in terms of the days and hours worked, which makes this internship ideal for a student who may want to work more during the summer and then work fewer hours during the fall semester. In addition to this being a paid position at the rate of $12 per hour, the approval and earning of undergraduate or graduate level course credits are encouraged. Suggested fields of study include planning, public policy, urban design, economic development, geography, environmental studies, landscape architecture, public administration or a related field.
The Department of Planning is located in the County Office Building in Downtown White Plains, easily accessible by Metro-North and Bee-Line bus. We are also a bike-friendly workplace that is located near a regional bike path with secure bike parking.
