Sam Schwartz Engineering Planning Intern

Sam Schwartz Engineering (SSE) is a transportation planning and engineering firm specializing in creative, multi-modal solutions to complex transportation problems, which are grounded in technically rigorous analyses. SSE is looking for a motivated intern to join the transportation planning group in our Manhattan office.

This is a paid internship with a requirement of at least 16 hours a week through the current semester, with the possibility to continue on in following semesters. This internship will include preparing quantitative analyses, conducting field work, research, writing, and developing graphics, presentations, and maps, in addition to the occasional administrative task.

Candidates should have a demonstrable interest in transportation planning, and ideally have some related work and/or school experience (such as Introduction to Transportation Planning, or similar).  In addition, candidates should:

  • Be currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in urban planning or a related field
  • Possess knowledge of planning and urban design concepts and an understanding of transportation planning concepts and methodology
  • Have strong research and analytical experience
  • Have strong writing and communication skills
  • Have demonstrated experience with Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Have demonstrated experience ArcGIS or another GIS
  • Be willing to support the transportation planning group in various capacities in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
