Job Description

Position Title: Operations Coordinator Reporting To: Director of Operations and Neighborhood Planning Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000 (plus full benefits package) ABOUT THE BID The Meatpacking District Management Association is the Business Improvement District (BID) for the Meatpacking District neighborhood of Manhattan. It provides supplemental city services, economic development programming, and other support for businesses and the neighborhood; including a suite of public realm services that create a top-notch experience for the neighborhood’s visitors, workers, and residents. The Meatpacking District is an exciting and innovative place to work and is a national leader in public realm planning and hosts numerous major events, including the LEAF Festival of Flowers, New York Fashion Week, and the annual fall festival. POSITION SUMMARY The Meatpacking BID seeks an Operations Coordinator with an interest in public space and facilities management, and an eagerness to be at the heart of a dynamic 24-hour neighborhood in Manhattan. Under the direction of the BID’s Executive Director and Director of Operations, the position will focus on coordinating the wide range of operations undertaken by the BID and services provided by BID contractors. The position will be critical to the implementation of a range of BID initiatives including special events, the DOT Open Streets program, and other public space initiatives. Neighborhood Management The Operations Coordinator is expected to supervise neighborhood operations and oversee neighborhood conditions in order to deliver high-quality services to the Meatpacking District. The Coordinator will be familiar with all aspects of the District, and regularly survey the neighborhood for issues that need to be addressed by BID staff, contractors, or the City of New York to maintain and enhance the quality of life within the District. Contracted Service Coordination The Coordinator will coordinate relevant BID contracted service providers to ensure services are provided satisfactorily. This includes working directly with service providers and staff (particularly Sanitation and Pedestrian Management), developing service budgets, coordinating the purchase of uniforms and necessary equipment, keeping organized service records, and maintaining a strong working relationship with all contractors. Data Reporting Successful neighborhood operations rely on consistent data collection and reporting to be effective. The Operations Coordinator is expected to work with the Director of Operations to develop a reporting program to identify problem areas within the BID, track systemic issues, and evaluate general neighborhood conditions to improve District operations. Examples of tracking and reporting needs include illegal dumping, streetlight outages, street sign repair needs, landscaping issues, and graffiti. 32 Gansevoort Street, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10014 • P: 212-633-0185 • F: 212-379-2125• www.meatpacking-district.com Special Event Coordination The BID puts on a wide range of public events and provides support for other events across the Meatpacking District, including the LEAF Flower Show, Fall Festival, and others. The Operations Coordinator will coordinate BID operations for all special events including managing BID staff, contractors, and third-party teams in the lead up to and through the end of events. Preferred Qualifications • An associate degree with 2+ years of relevant operations experience, or an advanced degree in a relevant field of study • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including the ability to remain calm and think clearly under pressure, and deescalate conflict • Responsible and detail-oriented approach to work with strong observational and critical thinking skills • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work on projects independently with limited supervision • An interest in neighborhood issues, improving quality of life for people • Experience with basic budgeting and money management • Experience working with City agencies, construction, building maintenance, and other relevant industries • Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends when necessary • Ability to assist in moving and relocating equipment and furniture • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) The Operations Coordinator position is an in-person, on the ground job.
