Seam Social Labs, PBC. [dba co:census] is a public engagement firm headquartered in New Jersey with an office in New York City. As an MWBE-certified business, co:census provides a hybrid tech and service solution for planners and designers. The team has worked on over 50 Northeast and West Coast projects, including congestion pricing studies, vision zero initiatives, and comprehensive & citywide mobility plans.

As a tech-forward company, Seam Social Labs is now building a new venture: a public engagement firm in the New York region. We are hiring a Managing Director, Principal to lead the growth, development and operations for this New York firm.

Managing Director, Principal, NY – Compensation Package ~$220,000. 

We seek an enterprising and experienced Managing Director to lead our public engagement firm specializing in transportation projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for building the NYC business line up to $5M in annual revenue, focusing on transportation and urban planning projects.

This role will report to the company’s President and CEO and build out the NYC office. We are looking for candidates with 10+ years of experience navigating NY local governments (city and state) and a vast network of contacts within the state’s transportation, planning, and commuter rail agencies and firms. This candidate should also have experience managing a team of 5 or more people and their department P&L.

This role is ideal for an intrapreneur who appreciates the freedom of building their book of business and department. The ideal start date would be late July or early August 2024.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan to expand the business and achieve revenue targets, with a key goal of growing the practice to $5M by 2027.
  • Lead business development efforts to identify and secure new opportunities in the transportation sector
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners
  •  Provide leadership and guidance to the team to ensure successful project delivery and client satisfaction
  • Oversee financial performance and operational efficiency of the business line
  • Travel to statewide conferences and events to represent the business
  • Serve as a thought leader and figurehead for our statewide communications, press, and industry publications.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to drive innovation and quality in our services



  • 7+ years of experience in local government in an agency or firm environment
  • BA/MA in Urban Planning, Architecture, or Design
  • Proven track record of successfully growing a business line or company to achieve revenue targets
  • Extensive experience in public engagement, transportation projects, or related fields
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team
  • Excellent business acumen and strategic thinking
  • Demonstrated ability to build and nurture client relationships and partnerships

Salary and Compensation:

$115K- $130k base annual salary with $20k bonus opportunity and benefits (health and 401K) and stock options in business. Total compensation package $220K+ with OTE. This is a three-year track to a “Partner” role in the firm.
