The Department seeks someone who is passionate about urban planning, jobs, businesses, housing, sustainability, and city services and has success with significant grant funding applications. The Grants Specialist will work under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner for Development and play an integral role on the Development Team including support for Departmental communications. The Grants Specialist will need to develop a broad understanding of the Department’s dynamic activities and goals. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of grants programs and reporting requirements including New York State Consolidated Funding Application, USDOT, HUD, EPA, and Congressional Earmarks. The Grants Specialist must be self-organized and self-motivated and communicate effectively in writing and presentation and have familiarity with digital communications strategies and tactics. This position is responsible for the procurement of Federal, State, County, and private non-reimbursable funds designed to enhance the quality and quantity of services provided by the municipality to the public. The work includes identifying potential funding sources, matching them with appropriate municipal needs or operations, formulating necessary procedures for the timely and accurate review and submission of proposals, and establishing the necessary controls to effectively and efficiently utilize the funding in compliance with grantor requirements. The incumbent is also responsible for establishing and maintaining extensive contacts with   Federal, State, County, and private agency personnel as well as municipal department heads and officials. While the ability to exercise independent judgment is a requirement, general supervision is received from administrative personnel. General supervision is exercised over assigned personnel. Does related work as required.

Qualifications: A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four- year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) year of experience in fundraising, grant writing, grant procurement, or coordination /administration of a public or private grant program; OR B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two-year college or university with an Associate’s Degree and three (3) years of experience as described in (A); OR C) Graduation from high school or possession of High School Equivalency Diploma and five (5) years of experience as described in (A) and (B).

Salary Range: $82,146 – $117,416
