Job Description
ANHD is seeking a Community Planning Coordinator to support and advance ANHD’s Land Use Justice technical assistance work. The selected candidate will be responsible for technical analysis, the creation of public-facing materials, and the design, coordination and facilitation of workshops for the public around local and citywide land use issues.
The Community Planning Coordinator will work closely with ANHD’s land use team and with stakeholders including ANHD member organizations, elected officials, community board members, local organizers, and others to empower local residents to participate more effectively in the land use process to ensure development and investment better reflect both the local priorities and visions of neighborhood residents and the citywide needs of all New Yorkers. Training topics and curriculum would be targeted to help the audience understand how the land use process works, how they can engage strategically in it to achieve community goals, and how to use data tools in their local context. In addition to trainings and public materials, the position would involve analysis on a host of demographic and housing data in districts throughout the city.

Responsibilities:
This position will join ANHD’s Policy department and will work closely with members of the Organizing & Advocacy department. The position’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Creating workshops on different topics relevant to land use in New York City
- Facilitating both in-person and on-line trainings for select and public audiences
- Creating written handouts, brochures, and 1-pagers for distribution as needed
- Conducting data analysis, including on community demographics, housing development & affordability, and employment & economic activity
- Reviewing and summarizing local and citywide land use plans and applications for laypeople
- Analyzing the potential impact of land use proposals within communities
Qualifications:
- A strong working knowledge of the land use planning process in NYC, including familiarity with zoning and ULURP
- A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in policy, advocacy, technical assistance, data analysis and/or public education related to land use, housing development, and/or community planning
- Experience working with data and translating it to publicly accessible formats
- Experience working with excel and GIS – graphic design experience a plus but not required
- Experience and comfort in public speaking and working with community members
- Comfort working with a wide range of stakeholders, including government stakeholders and elected officials, community organizers, tenant leaders, policy advocates, etc
- Ability to communicate complex and technical information in ways that are accessible to non-technical audiences
- Strong project management skills, and ability to work on multiple projects or deliverables at once.
- Commitment to New York City’s neighborhoods, and respect for not-for-profit community development corporations, community organizing, and grassroots organizations.
- Commitment to racial equity, and comfort applying a racial equity lens to policy and advocacy work as well as to interpersonal professional interactions and relationships.
Location Requirements:
This position is Hybrid. Applicants will need to work from ANHD’s office in Lower Manhattan at least two days a week. Some nights and weekends will be required for both in-person and virtual trainings.

Compensation:
Mid Level — $60,000 to $75,000. Compensation dependent upon experience.
