Job Description

 

COMMUNITY PLANNING INTERNSHIP

Community District Four, also known as the Capital District, is made up of the following neighborhoods: Mt. Eden, Highbridge, West Concourse, East Concourse, and Concourse Village.  Our district is bounded by the Cross Bronx Expressway to the North, East 149th Street to the South, Webster to Park Avenue on the East and the Harlem River on the West. Over 154,000 residents call Community District Four home.

As a community we have several short-term and long-term goals and objectives.  We are looking for a graduate planning student to assist in the creation of the Community Board Four Master Plan for the district.  The plan would align with the Board’s goals and objectives related to housing and land use, transportation, urban design, workforce development, open space and recreation, health and wellness and youth and education.

REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for a graduate intern who is seeking experience in community development,

transportation planning, urban design, public outreach, and more. This internship opportunity

is open for qualified graduate student candidates. Hours can vary from 15 to 20 hours per

week, for up to six (6) months. This individual would be responsible for conducting primary

research on demographics, socioeconomics, and best practices. They should be computer

proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite. In addition, this individual should be familiar

with basic urban planning/urban design principles and capable of creating building massings,

streetscapes and illustrative renderings/drawings

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate student in urban planning or urban studies currently enrolled in a graduate program

(or recently graduated) in urban and regional planning, community planning, architecture,

urban design, urban studies, economics, real estate development, geography, or other related

field. A strong interest in community development, urban design, revitalization, sustainable

development and transportation planning. Flexibility and desire to work on a variety of

planning projects is essential.

 

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Excellent writing, digital communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with GIS mapping, Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite
  • Microsoft Office
  • Adobe Suite
  • Sketchup
  • ARCGIS
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work with minimal supervision

 

SCHEDULE

  • Monday to Friday
    • 15-20 hours per week
  • September 2021 to May 2022

WORK LOCATION

This will be a hybrid of remote and in-person.  Assignment will involve field work, stakeholder interviews and meetings with small groups (options for virtual and/or in-person).
