Job Description: The Town of Eastchester, Westchester County, New York, is seeking a full-time Assistant Planner to serve under the general supervision of the Director of Planning in the town’s Building and Planning Department. The position is subject to civil service regulations and requirements administered by Westchester County.

Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the general principles and techniques used in municipal planning; familiarity with zoning and subdivision principles and practices; ability to organize and conduct physical planning studies; ability to interpret visual data from maps and charts; ability to compile, analyze and interpret physical data; ability to prepare sketches, maps, site designs and plans from field studies or reference materials; ability to work well with others; ability to express oneself effectively both orally and in writing; ability to effectively use various computer applications such as spreadsheet, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software; knowledge of CAD and GIS applications.

Examples of Work Responsibilities Include (but may not be limited to): Assisting with the review of applications and plans submitted to the town’s Architectural Review Board (ARB), Planning Board (PB) and Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA). Assisting with the preparation of meeting notes, agendas and resolutions for the ARB, PB and ZBA. Assisting with SEQRA compliance and Westchester Country referrals.  Attending and participating in meetings, including regularly scheduled evening meetings (with the town’s boards) and occasional special meetings.  Assisting with the preparation of grant applications for planning related projects. Accessing and plotting CAD and GIS based maps and aerial photographs.   Assisting with the development of the town’s Comprehensive Plan. Assisting with the development of municipal legislation, research and physical planning studies, and providing information to municipal officials and the general public (on the phone, at the counter and by email) regarding land use, zoning and environmental issues.

Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience: Either: (a) Bachelor’s Degree and one year of experience in which the primary function of the position was urban or regional planning, architecture, engineering, or a related field; or (b) Bachelor’s Degree in City, Urban, or Regional Planning, Engineering (civil, environmental, traffic or similar), Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Geography or a related field.

Salary Offered (Annualized):  $50,288-$61,673
