The Village of Mamaroneck is seeking enthusiastic candidates for the full-time position
of Assistant Planner. The position provides the opportunity to be involved in a diverse
range of planning activities from innovative zoning techniques, environmental and
economic development planning, to site plan review and long-range planning. The
successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Village Planner.
About the Village of Mamaroneck
The Village of Mamaroneck is a suburban community located on Long Island Sound
with a compact and walkable downtown, working industrial area, and several residential
neighborhoods. The Village is highly transit connected with speedy access to Manhattan
via Metro North Railroad and Intra-County connections serviced by Westchester
County’s Bee-Line bus system. The Village’s downtown is a hub for cultural institutions,
entertainment, shopping and dining.
In recent years the Village of Mamaroneck has initiated many innovative planning
activities including the adoption of transit-oriented development zoning, adaptive reuse
zoning, a wayfinding signage master plan and strategic economic development planning
for commercial districts. Presently, the Village is in the process of two major planning
initiatives 1) updating the Comprehensive Plan to increase focus on climate change,
resilience and sustainability and 2) implementation of the industrial area revitalization.
Conduct research and data gathering to assist the Village in reviewing policy
Helping residents, businesses and applicants understand and navigate the land
Prepare maps, reports, zoning reviews, environmental and economic studies.
Perform special projects as directed by the Village Planner or Village Manager.
Interact with other Department Heads and staff from the Building, Engineering,
and Public Works Departments, Attorney’s Office, Village Manager.
Update and maintain GIS and other databases.
Attend staff and committee meetings as assigned.
Prepare grant applications and the administration of various grant projects.
The Ideal Candidate will:
Have excellent verbal and written communications and will be able translate
complex concepts and issues into plain language.
Be well-organized and detail-oriented
Be proficient in ArcMap and other ESRI GIS products
Have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Be enthusiastic and customer service oriented.
Perform with a high level of professionalism.
Salary and Benefits:
Annual salary is in the range of $40,000to $50,000, DOQ. Standard benefits package
includes: health insurance, life insurance, dental and eye care as well as other benefits
including paid holidays, vacation, personal, and sick time.
Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience:
Either (a) a Bachelor’s Degree and two years of experience where the primary function
was urban or regional planning, architecture, engineering or a related field; or (b) a
Bachelor’s Degree in City Urban or Regional Planning and one year of experience or (c)
a Master’s Degree in Urban or Regional Planning.
