Job Description

This is a highly responsible and public position that may deal with sensitive, political and controversial

issues that will assist the Commissioner of Planning in making policy issues related to planning

recommendations to the Land use Boards and City Council on issues regarding current and long-term land

use and development issues. The incumbent is responsible for directing and maintaining comprehensive

development plans, as well as the management of special planning studies and planning in relation to

economic development projects. The work includes planning, assigning, scheduling, and evaluating

planning projects concerning the improvement of various socioeconomic and environmental outcomes. An

incumbent in this position is also responsible for the preparation and creation of research studies related to

comprehensive developmental policies and concerns. It is expected that the incumbent will possess the

professionalism and decorum to maintain confidentiality of proprietary, in-design development projects,

and advise the administration on public policy issues related to planning, development, social justice and

environmental justice issues. The ability to make independent decisions is a requirement, under the guidance

from administrative personnel. General supervisory duties are exercised over assigned personnel.
