Job Description

Affordable Housing Development Internship
The Institute for Community Living (ICL) is a 30-year old non-profit organization that provides a range of human
services, residential programs, and housing, and operates one of the largest networks of residences for mentally ill
adults in the state. ICL operates in all five boroughs of New York City, with a concentration of projects in Brooklyn.
We have an extensive pipeline of new supportive/affordable housing projects that are in construction or planning
stages, and are looking to build-out our in-house housing development infrastructure. The Affordable Housing
Development Intern would support affordable and supportive housing projects in pre-development and
construction with supervision from the Vice President of Real Estate and Development. ICL seeks graduate student
candidates for a paid Internship for 20 hours a week from August-December 2021 to work on projects in various
stages of development.
Responsibilities:
 Coordinate development team members towards successful project completion
 Collecting due diligence materials and delivering to relevant lenders
 Communication with other development partners including the general contractor, architect, owner’s rep,
and property manager
 Opportunity for monthly visits to active construction site
 Zoning analysis
 Financial feasibility analysis
 Assisting with funding RFP responses to government agencies
 Interns are expected to work independently with supervision and guidance

Qualifications:
Strong candidates must be proficient in Excel, organized, and have an interest in learning about affordable and
supportive housing. As part of a nonprofit focused on service provision, the context for this work is focused on
improving the life of our clients. Background in financial underwriting is a plus.
Minimum Education:
Graduate students or upper-level undergraduates in urban planning, real estate finance, business, or other relevant
fields. This is an immediate opportunity with the hope it would extend through December.
Compensation:
20 hour work week (flexible timing during business hours) at $20/hour.
Location:
This position will involve a combination of remote work and in-office work.
