The APA Diversity Committee is pleased to host an evening of Professional Development for Underrepresented Planners in efforts to promote diversity in the planning field and to support planners of color, women, LGBTQ individuals, and others in career development.

This evening will feature opportunities to have your resume reviewed and workshopped, learn effective networking strategies, and hear from planners of color in leadership positions in the NYC planning world on the importance of diversity in leadership, and advice for navigating the system.

The agenda includes:

  • Welcome remarks & keynote speaker
  • Panel discussion on career advancement for underrepresented planners with panelists: Mitchell Silver, Commissioner of NYC Dept. of Parks and Recreation; Yvonne Lopez-Diaz, Vice President of Human Resources at HNTB Corporation; Kerry McLean, Vice President of Community Development at WHEDco
  • Resume and Networking workshops
    Bring your resume and sign up to meet one-on-one with panelists and other professionals to receive constructive feedback*
  • Participate in an activity to learn strategies for networking practice in small groups
  • Closing remarks and upcoming opportunities

This event is free and open to all planners in the New York City metro area, with a particular focus on reaching underrepresented planners. You can RSVP at our Eventbrite page.

*If you would like your resume reviewed: There will be sign ups for 15-minute sessions with various leaders from different sectors. If you would like your resume reviewed, please bring additional copies of your resume and pens.
**Note to Attendees: Please bring at least 5 copies of your resume, business cards and you should dress professionally.
