Welcome to the American Planning Association New York Metro Chapter’s (APA-NYM) brand new website – a destination and tool that connects New York Metro Area planners to the latest planning news, professional resources, and each other. We’re thrilled about this update, and excited to share it with our members and the larger New York Metro planning community.

Here’s a quick tour to get you started:

Homepage

First, take a look at our new homepage. Here you’ll find the most up-to-date planning news, upcoming event listings, job postings, and professional development opportunities. This landing page will give you an instant snapshot of what’s happening in the New York Metro area planning world, and how to get involved.

Member Login for APA Members

If you’re already an APA member, you need only activate your account to gain access to the full features of this site. To access your account:

  • Click the [Member Login] button in the top right corner of the site to open the login window.
  • Reset your password by clicking the forgot password link at the bottom right of the login window.
  • Enter your email address and submit the form.
  • You will receive an email from “nyplanning.org” with the link to reset your password. Click the link and enter your desired password. We urge you to create a strong password.
  • Login with your new password.

Events Calendar

Next, check out our events calendar. You’ll find a variety of APA-NYM-sponsored panels, discussions, screenings, etc., as well as events hosted by organizations across the metro area. You can filter events by category, dates, and key words, and our detailed listings will provide dates, times, locations, descriptions, cost and whether each event is CM credit-certified.

Want to post your organization’s planning-related event? It’s easy: simply submit your event details, image and registration information through our online form. Our site administrators will approve your event within 24 hours, and your event will become visible on our monthly event calendar.

Job Listings

Our new job listings page is easy to use. Looking for a job? Check out postings listed in order of their posting date. Want to post a job listing? Use our job posting submission form to reach thousands of potential candidates. Postings will stay on the job page until the listed closing date, and we will post any planning job within the tri-state area. Please allow 24 hours for listings to become visible!

Committees & Sections

You can get a great sense of how the APA-NYM members help promote planning and connect planning professionals by browsing our committee and section pages. Interested in Urban DesignTransportation, Zoning, or any other planning topics? Do you work in New York CityHudson Valley East or West, or Long Island? Check out each committee and geographic section page to see what public events our members are planning, connect on social media, or find out how to join a committee or section. If you’re looking for information that you don’t find on our pages, you can contact one of our chairpersons, who can help connect you with the resources you need.

Professional Resources

Our Professional Development page is a the place to go for information on planning schools, the AICP exam, certification maintenance credits, trainings, and more. APA-NYM Professional Development Officer Alex Wallach is always available to link New York Metro planners with the professional development opportunities they need to succeed.

You can receive a bi-weekly roundup of the latest news, job postings, upcoming events, and professional development opportunities by signing up for our bi-weekly New York Planner’s Brief, our bi-weekly e-newsletter. We won’t overload your inbox, but we will let you know if anything important is happening for planners in the metro area.
