  • Arthur Kunz Memorial Scholarship for 2011
The Long Island Section is pleased to announce the winners of the Arthur Kunz Memorial Scholarship for 2011.

    This year's winners are:
    Nicholas Dickerson and Jonathan Keyes.
Nicholas is from Mattituck and is currently a full time Graduate Student at the University of Cincinnati, College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning.

Jonathan is a Project Manager for the Town of Babylon Affordable Housing Program and is pursuing a Master of Urban Planning at NYU's Wagner School of Public Service.

The scholarship provides $1,500 to cover the cost of the APA National Conference, at least one mobile workshop and expenses. The recipients will make a short presentation following the conference at an upcoming LI Section event to be announced.

  • SPONSORSHIP
The Long Island Section of the American Planning Association continues to offer workshops, conferences, and other events for professional planners, zoning and planning board members, and the many professionals associated with the development community. We do this every year with the slimmest of budgets. There are three corporate sponsorship levels ($750, $1000, $1500) and an event-only option ($500) for the Kunz Memorial Breakfast, East End Conference, or Fall Conference. Individual sponsorships are also welcome ($150 and $300). Sponsors will be acknowledged publicly at events and in print and electronic materials. Sponsors receive tickets to attend the various LI Section events and workshops. A portion of all sponsorships will be directed to the Arthur Kunz Memorial Fund for young planner scholarships. We appreciate your past support and hope that you will help the LI Section of the APA now so we can continue to serve the Long Island planning community. Please request details from APALongIsland@gmail.com. If you just know that that this is a great thing, please mail checks payable to APA-LI Section to: Kathryn Eiseman, Treasurer, APA-LI Section, Nelson, Pope & Voorhis, 572 Walt Whitman Rd, Melville, NY 11747
  • AICP CM Accreditation
AICP accreditation of the 2008 & 2009 Smart Growth Summits by Vision Long Island has been sought & we will send them an email when it is posted so they can claim credits for the workshops and apply them to the first reporting period 1/1/8 - 12/31/9 if they need the credits or to the second reporting period 1/1/10 - 12/31/11.

The Certification Maintenance (CM) reporting period is every two years. The first two year reporting period began on January 1, 2008 and ended December 31, 2009. There is a grace period which enables members to accrue & log in credits up until 04/30/10 and have them applied to the first year reporting period if needed. A total of 32 CM credits (32 hours) are required every two year reporting period including 1.5 CM ethics credits and 1.5 CM law credits.

A maximum of 16 CM credits may be carried from one reporting period to the next, excluding the ethics and law requirements. So if members attended more than the required 32 credits they should still log them in and they will get credit for the following reporting period.
