Our work includes support to the completion of diverse, high-profile projects such as transit route/system analysis, design, development, and implementation, environmental and land use review of major development and infrastructure projects, development of site-specific and area-wide transportation plans, completion of feasibility studies, sustainability and resiliency plans, and public outreach services for major projects. Sam Schwartz has completed major projects that have enhanced the feasibility and contributed to the success of Barclays Center, Second Avenue Subway, the Brooklyn-Queens Connector (BQX), and Port Authority Bus Terminal. We specialize in the development of creative solutions to complex development and transportation problems, grounded in technically rigorous analysis that conforms to public and industry regulatory guidance and standards.


We are seeking a Senior Transit Planner in our New York office to work on a variety of transit projects, such as bus, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), streetcar, and ferry operations analysis, planning, and design.  The selected candidate will become a part of our collaborative team culture and will integrate their work with our traffic engineering, planning, and environmental groups to develop solid, sometimes outside of the box, solutions that distinguish our work amongst high-profile public and private clients.

The position’s responsibilities will include the preparation of technical memoranda and reports, completion and delivery of presentations, technical studies, etc.


The candidate we seek will possess the following qualities:

  • Minimum five years of experience in transit planning/operations
  • Master’s degree in planning, engineering, or a related field
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of New York City, New York State, and federal transit operations and regulations
  • Comprehensive understanding of transit planning concepts, transit operations, and multi-modal design
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS
