  9. NYMetro Lower Hudson East and GreenDrinks Westchester Happy Hour!

For April we will be gathering on the 15th at 6:00pm at Tomantillo in Dobbs Ferry to chat with Joe from Peak Organic Beer of Maine. Peaks Pale Ale and locally sourced Maple Oat Ale will be available on draft to try at the event. The Maple Oat is made with oats from Maine and Vermont Maple Syrup (all the ingredients for this ale come from within 150 miles of our facility in Portland Maine). Who is Peak Beer you ask? As Jon Cadoux, the found of Peak Brewery puts it: "We are a small brewing company dedicated to making delicious beer using the world's best ingredients. We believe that using barley and hops that are grown without toxic and persistent pesticides and chemical fertilizers makes our beer tastier and more enjoyable, both for you and for the planet." Tomantillo where we are meeting is a Mexchester Original, where they strive to be as unique as the fruit itself. Their menu draws mainly from Mexico, but many of their fresh, seasonal ingredients come right from the Hudson Valley, including organic produce from the Stone Barns Center. They make everything fresh daily, from the rainbow chips to the guacamole. Their goal is to be inventive and healthy, delicious and affordable. Tomantillo is located at 13 Cedar Street, Dobbs Ferry.

New State Training Law for Municipal Planning and Zoning Boards to Take Effect

As of January 1, 2007, new minimum training requirements for municipal planning and zoning officials will take effect. The new law requires a minimum training standard of four hours each year for all members of county, city, town and village planning and zoning boards. There are many different avenues of training permitted, and the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation (WMPF)courses are a good place to start. On April 2, 7 and 17, 2008, WMPF's Land Use Training Institute will be held at the Judicial Institute at Pace Law Scholl, 78 North Broadway, White Plains. Attendance at this three-evening course should fulfill the state's criteria for citizen board members (but not for professional planners seeking Certification Maintenance credits). WMPF is investigating sponsoring programs designed to meet CM requirements.

APA Hudson Yards Position Paper

APA offers its perspectives on the fragmentation of the public review process in which the zoning plan is subject to the City's review, while key elements, like the proposed stadium and the expanded convention center, remain outside such review. APA also cautions that the City's reliance on scenarios for the building of millions of square feet for financing the plan may be overly optimistic. Read more (pdf/230k).
